In the Netherlands, only two per cent of the population uses acupuncture or Tuina therapy.
​Within that two per cent, many people are unaware that these treatments cover a vast area of medical conditions, which has been recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO).
This being said, people still associate acupuncture and Tuina therapy with pain treatment only.

As for QST and the treatment of autism, there are currently only a handful of therapists in the Netherlands, so more awareness is most definitely needed.

I recently had a tooth infection which inflamed a facial nerve causing a partial paralysis of the left side of my face. Such inflammations are not uncommon, and in fact is commonly known as “Bell’s Palsy.” My doctor prescribed the anti-inflammatory steroid prednisone but it didn’t seem to have any effect at all and I didn’t like the idea of being on a long term prescription, so I stopped it. In my research of Bell’s Palsy, it seems symptoms can start to lessen on their own after a few weeks, so I decided to go with that and just live with it.

It was then that my wife suggested talking to her acupuncturist, Jill Brown, with whom she had good experiences with. Though I had never had an acupuncture treatment before, I was open to the suggestion. After meeting with and talking to Jill, I felt very comfortable in her expertise as she explained the procedure in a calm and clear way. Although I really didn’t have any great expectations, I had always been curious about acupuncture and now I could give it a try. Although it was an odd feeling at first to have needles inserted in all sorts of places, it really wasn’t painful at all and I soon got used to it. The first two treatments I don’t remember much change. However, the sessions were very pleasant and relaxing and therapeutic just in themselves. I always felt good afterwards, more relaxed and awake. It was probably after the third session that it seemed I was getting a little more movement in my facial muscles and each session afterwards seemed to bring more and more improvement.

In total I had about 7 sessions over a 3½ week period and at the end of it all I can say that I have no remaining symptoms of Bells’s Palsy. I have full control over my facial muscles. I feel the acupuncture treatment was a major factor in my recovery.

I was sick with various colds and infections for two months, I've now had 5 treatments from Jill to help boost my immunity, and despite my kids bringing home colds, I've been cold free for the last two months (fingers crossed)! I came into contact with Ms. Jill Brown after coming to the Netherlands in the year 2020.  I have two (2) boys - 9 years and 7 years who were diagnosed with autism/ADHD with sensory and Gut/Digestive issues.
Having read about Qigong Sensory Treatment (QST), I was determined to sign up for the treatment for my kids and to see positive results. I religiously followed the massage treatment and continued to massage the kids at home as directed by Ms. Jill.
After ten (10) weeks of receiving the treatment, I can boldly say that my first son stopped bedwetting, his understanding improved, shared tears when sad (he never did), sleep issues improved, and most importantly, his Gut/digestion healed.
My second son has also stopped biting his fingernails, he shows great affection, his hearing and understanding has improved, and makes simple meaningful sentences.

We came to Jill with our 6-year-old son because of his overstimulation, anger and difficulty expressing emotions. The beginning was hard work, a child who would rather not have this massage every day. But after a few weeks we saw extraordinary jumps. He visibly relaxed after the massage, was able to express himself better, including his emotions. He managed to pull himself out of difficult situations, anger decreased and empathy increased. A moving result. We are so glad we found Qigong massage and Jill and persevered. In addition to the massage, Jill gives advice in a pleasant way so that you go through the process together. Once you start to realise that your child has sensory processing issues it can be difficult to find people to take you seriously and to offer help, rather than simply dismissing you or suggesting that there is little that can be done. Equally difficult, is finding ways in which you can help your child beyond just taking them to occupational therapy.
 
We faced this situation with our son, William, who has sensory issues.  Internet research suggested that QST therapy could be beneficial for him.  In Jill we found a therapist who listened to us, and could relate to the challenges we were facing.  In QST we have found therapy that makes a real difference. It is quick to learn and not difficult to do and whilst it requires the commitment to do the massage for a few minutes every day the small amount of effort involved has been amply rewarded by the huge improvements that we have seen in our son. William is now much happier, has made huge strides in his speech, language and his fine motor skills and is much better able to cope with the stimuli to which he was previously over-responsive.

These treatments included acupuncture sessions for my immune system improvement, lower back and shoulder pain relief, with combination of tuina and cupping. She also looked at my overall health and looked for body signs in order to trace the source of the symptoms. ​Due to an immune deficiency that’s been bothering me throughout my entire adult life not only my health has been going up and down, so have my energy levels and my spirit. 
I have been using medication on and off with various results. I needed weekly visits to a chiropractor for years due to inflammation, otherwise, I would be in pain and discomfort. Apparently a common combination with Crohn’s disease.
Since my visits to Jill, I haven’t been needing those visits to my chiropractor. Amazing after 25 years now as good as pain-free.
